Shelby Brown, speaking for Thomas Chapel Church, asked the Wetzel County Board of Education to consider granting approximately half an acre of former playground property adjacent to the church (identified in the handout by tax map references) for parking, outdoor classes, picnics and a pavilion available to the wider community. Brown said the church has maintained and recently renovated its facility and pledged to care for the parcel if granted.
Board staff responded that the district is still using the adjacent building (the kitchen at Hundred Heritage School) and that, once the kitchen work is finished and the district disposes of surplus property, the board will consider the church’s request and could place it on an upcoming agenda. Staff noted a survey and related steps would be needed as part of the property-disposition process.
Brown provided a handout with a tax-map inset (tax 2626, District 2, Book 6, Page 26) and contact information and said the church’s plans would not be exclusive to church members. No formal action was taken during the meeting; the board encouraged the speaker to provide any additional materials needed for consideration.
