Iredell County Parks & Recreation advisory board recommends Lauren Munro to fill vacancy, re‑elects chair and vice chair

The Iredell County Parks & Recreation Department’s Recreation Advisory Board met Jan. 2, 2025, and recommended Lauren Munro to fill the vacancy left by Deb Tatu, who chose not to seek reappointment.
Jane Laney moved to recommend Munro, citing Munro’s experience in the recreation field, her likely availability as a retiree and her residence in an area of the county not currently represented on the board; Joseph Cooke seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
The board also held officer elections for the year. Barbara Thorson nominated Jeff Cheek for chairman; Leonard Campbell seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. After an initial nomination the nominee declined, Barbara Thorson nominated Joseph Cooke for vice‑chair, Jane Laney seconded, and that motion also passed unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting, members approved the minutes from the Dec. 5, 2024 meeting on a motion by Thorson and a second from Cooke. No public comments were recorded.
Board members discussed next steps for onboarding the recommended candidate and agreed to add a new‑member orientation as a recurring item. The advisory board plans to meet again on Feb. 6, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the Parks and Recreation Conference Room at the administrative offices.
