At the Jan. 15 meeting the Sequoia Union High School District board took several formal actions by roll call.
Early in the meeting trustees moved and unanimously approved the agenda. The board then reported out of closed session that, by a 5‑0 vote, trustees had approved a settlement agreement in case number 2024 d225 D5. The board later considered the consent agenda (which included multiple routine items and reports) and approved it on a roll‑call vote with all trustees and the student trustees recorded as voting "yes."
Outside of consent items, the board heard the 2023–24 financial audit from Matthew OA of Shoban and Associates. The auditor presented key financial highlights: the district’s net position increased by $23 million to an ending balance of about $58.8 million; General Obligation bonds increased in connection with an $80 million issuance; pension and other post‑employment (OPEB) liabilities rose (OPEB net liability increased by about $24 million and pension liabilities rose by about $10.4 million). The audit report provided an unmodified (clean) opinion, with no material weaknesses or significant deficiencies noted.
Board members asked several technical questions about pension and OPEB assumptions and whether the district should consider a plan to address long‑term liabilities; staff offered to provide additional analysis in future budget subcommittee updates. The board then voted to approve the audit on a recorded roll call; the motion passed unanimously.
No additional formal actions on the public‑commented personnel claims were taken in open session; the board reiterated that matters raised during public comment are generally referred to staff for investigation unless they are agendized.
