The Montebello City Council convened in closed session on two legal items and was briefed on both matters, the city attorney reported at the council's April 8 meeting.
Under the item described as "conference of legal counsel — anticipated litigation," the city attorney said two matters were discussed and presented to the council but that there was no final action to report. Regarding the second closed‑session item, "conference of legal counsel — existing litigation," he said the council received a briefing on the pending case Sanchez v. City of Montebello and provided direction to the city attorney's office; again, no final action that is required to be reported was taken.
"The record should reflect that the city council convened for close session with all five members being present," the city attorney said, and that while direction was provided to counsel, no action was required to be reported to the public at that time.
The report concluded with the city attorney stating that it was appropriate to continue with the open portion of the meeting. The council did not take any further public action on the litigation during the remainder of the session.
