Board approves PE fitness-testing and block-schedule waiver applications

The Roseville Joint Union High School District board approved two waiver-related action items on Aug. 27: pursuit of a physical fitness testing waiver and approval of a PE block schedule waiver.
Board members said the fitness-testing waiver is a formality to align state testing dates with the district’s 4x4 block schedule. "Since we have a 4x4 schedule ... this action allows us to line up our PE schedules and the time kids are in PE to our block schedules," a speaker explained.
Both motions were moved, seconded and approved by voice; the fitness-testing waiver passed with one member absent. The board closed public hearings on both items earlier in the meeting after receiving no public testimony.
Board discussion included a request to explore which PE courses should count toward graduation requirements; a trustee asked to add that topic to a future agenda so the board can consider course equivalencies and Ed. Code constraints.
No vote totals by name were recorded on the public record beyond the board indicating unanimous approval of the motions with one absence.
