Dearborn County commissioners approve proclamations, appointments and ordinance amendments

The Dearborn County Board of Commissioners approved several routine but consequential items during its April 7 meeting.
The board unanimously approved a proclamation declaring April 30, 2026, National Therapy Animal Day and invited therapy-animal teams forward for recognition. Commissioners also approved an appointment to the Convention and Tourism Bureau (recommended by Tim Dole) and appointed David Wisman as a citizen member to the county Emergency Management/Local Emergency Planning Committee to maintain institutional knowledge after a staffing change.
The board adopted amendments to Chapter 90 of the county code concerning community cats and caregiver responsibilities, which updates language on spay/neuter and return practices and clarifies the obligations of those who feed or care for stray/community cats. Commissioners approved administrative items including claims, payroll and minutes from March 17.
What to watch: The board tabled a joint resolution (2026-004) concerning the Lynchburg Conservatory until after the city council acts and staff will bring the item back in May. No controversial votes were recorded in the items approved at the meeting; motions were made, seconded and recorded in the minutes as "motion carries."
