Resner interviewed for Central Georgia Joint Development Authority seat; board to vote at open meeting

Asked how he would learn the authority's responsibilities, Mr. Resner said he would consult peers and has already begun research online and on the authority's website. Describing an example of making impartial decisions under pressure, he recounted resolving a dispute between two employees by assessing the situation from the outside and helping both understand the correct perspective so work could continue.
On disagreement and consensus-building, Mr. Resner said he seeks to understand other viewpoints and "put myself in other people's shoes" to reach sensible outcomes. When questioned about balancing regional needs and individual property owners, he said officials must "look at the bigger picture" and weigh the impact of individual versus multiple stakeholders.
Regarding legal constraints, Mr. Resner stated, "If the line in the sand of the law is drawn, the law is the law," and added that he would try to accommodate public sentiment within legal bounds.
The interview concluded without an appointment. Board members said the authority's appointment will be made by vote at an upcoming open meeting; the board also discussed contacting another potential candidate, Mr. Pope, to ask whether he would serve. The work session began with and approved the meeting agenda and ended after a brief adjournment motion that passed by voice vote.
No formal vote to appoint a candidate was taken during the work session; the board indicated the appointment will be on the next open meeting agenda.
