Custer County board approves short-term rental, donations and surplus-asset resolutions; schedules outreach events

During its April 8 meeting the Custer County Board of Commissioners approved several routine items and scheduled community outreach events.

Short-term rental: The planning commission recommended approval of a short-term rental application for a residence at 101 Cold Spring Road owned by Richard Desmond. Planning staff (Delena) said the commission unanimously recommended two conditions: add a rule prohibiting open flames and mark property boundary lines in the guest rules to prevent trespass onto neighboring property. The board approved the application as presented.

Donation: Commissioners moved and approved a $500 donation from the community outreach fund to support a supervised after-prom event for students.

Asset sales: The board adopted Resolution 2623 authorizing sale of a diesel generator obtained through the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office (DRMO) program (winning bid $2,625). They also adopted Resolution 2624 authorizing sale of two portable light towers obtained via the same program; discussion noted that staff screen incoming DRMO items and refuse unusable gear but that the program can provide useful equipment including new tires and toolkits in some cases.

Outreach and operations: Commissioners announced a workforce-housing open house on April 22 at Tony’s, and urged residents to sign up for Everbridge emergency notifications. Staff reported the county website redesign is live and received positive public feedback.

What’s next: Staff will carry out the asset-sale paperwork, coordinate the short-term rental record and conditions, and prepare the open-house materials.
