Commission sets cleanup site leads, selects April/May 'House of the Month'

The Neighborhood Improvement Commission agreed on site management and volunteer oversight for the April 25 community cleanup after hearing GreenWaste’s presentation.

Commissioners recorded a variety of operational concerns — tight corners that block traffic, placing cones or city staff to reserve space for dumpsters, telephone and light poles interfering with box doors, and who will watch boxes between the noon event end and later truck pick‑ups. By consensus the commission approved using Highland Otis as the trial location for a donated recycling box and assigned two commissioners or volunteers to staff each box during the event. A local market site will retain an additional donated box and a business owner volunteered to purchase extra dumpsters for future events.

Separately, commissioners reviewed house nominations and voted on their community recognition program: 1630 San Lucas was selected as the April House of the Month and 1783 Laguna was selected for May. Commissioners requested staff check potential code compliance issues on nominated properties before plaques or announcements are finalized.
