The Antioch Unified board gave staff guidance to initiate a request-for-proposal process to hire a firm to manage the search for a permanent superintendent and discussed how to align that work with board-goal development.
Acting Superintendent Dr. Martinez described standard search firm services — community input, candidate screening, development of a position description and closed-session applicant review — and presented several well-known firms as examples. Trustees favored sending an RFP broadly, having the board score incoming proposals, and incorporating community input during candidate review panels. One trustee suggested combining search and board-goal development so a single firm could help draft goals that would inform the search and onboarding.
The board also discussed the need to fold in draft goals already produced by an equity committee and the LCFF/LCAP goals; several trustees recommended a dedicated workshop (a Saturday study session was suggested) to synthesize existing drafts, community input and cabinet recommendations and to prioritize a small set of actionable goals the new superintendent would implement.
No formal hiring decision was made; staff will prepare an RFP and return with proposals and a recommended timeline for board review and community engagement.
