ICSD nurse urges board to involve school health team after reported change to district health services

At a public hearing on the proposed 2026–27 budget, Alexis Abramo, an ICSD employee who identified herself as the LACS school nurse and a parent, told the board she believes the district has ‘‘dropped the TST health and wellness COSR for '26–'27’’ and urged that school health staff be part of any new medical‑director decision.
Abramo described services the COSR provides that she said would be lost, including a 24/7 call line for immediate health and safety questions, access to two clinicians experienced in school health, in‑school physicals beyond sport clearances, case management for students without medical homes, targeted professional development for school‑health staff, opportunities to coordinate with nearby districts, and access to a consultant school nurse. She said the district currently lacks a head nurse or clinical supervisor and that removing the COSR risks staff turnover and higher costs to the district if travel nurses are needed.
"We also lose access to all of those other things," Abramo said, adding that travel nurses could cost "4 to 5 times as much money." She asked: "Can you commit to having the school health team members participate in the new medical director decision and the resources that we need to prioritize health and safety for all of the kids in our school district?"
The Chair acknowledged the concern and said staff would likely follow up by email with additional information. The transcript contains no immediate district decision reversing the reported change; the issue remained unresolved in the hearing record.
