Proclamations: Mayor Martin Tucker presented a proclamation designating June 29 as Scoliosis Awareness Day and proclaiming May 2026 as National Foster Care Awareness Month, citing local services such as the J127 Ministry that serves young women ages 17 to 25.
Police firing range: The council approved a contract to construct a police firing range after Chief Petty reported the recommended bid came in under budget. Chief Petty said the contract amount was $74,492 and that work is expected to begin immediately with completion by June.
Utilities purchase: During the Durant City Utilities Authority meeting, Director Hightower requested reallocation of capital improvement funds to buy a new 3/4-ton pickup for $61,361 after the prior truck was totaled. The authority approved the reallocation and the purchase.
These actions were approved by roll call votes; most routine items passed unanimously with recorded affirmative votes.
