Greenway proposes kitchen at Alameda driving range; city staff say proposal complies with sightline limits

Greenway, the driving-range operator, has applied for a permit to convert a small teaching building next to the driving range into a commercial kitchen and food distribution location, Alameda parks staff told the commission.
The parks director said the permit has passed through the city permitting process and has gone before the planning board. The director said staff believe the proposal complies with the concession agreement's clause that forbids a facility from being visible from the patio area of Jim's (the adjacent concession); attorneys reviewed the proposal and confirmed compliance with that sightline restriction.
The director also said Greenway may seek a county alcohol license for beer and wine if it proceeds with on-site distribution, but that liquor licensing is a county-level review outside city purview. "It's a permit for a kitchen, not a restaurant," the director said, while noting the operator intends to distribute warm food and packaged goods and may pursue county ABC approval for limited alcohol service.
Commissioners asked for continued updates as the permit and any county licensing process progress. Staff said they will return with further information when the operator specifies the full proposal and schedule.
