Students, staff earn state honors; FFA members report wins and national qualifiers
Summary
FFA students and district staff were recognized Aug. 20 for state-level competition placements and professional awards; the board heard detailed results and learned several students will compete nationally in October.
FFA advisers Terry Hensen and Kate Pitman introduced student representatives who described their summer competition results, county fair placings and state-level awards. Students named accomplishments across many events: proficiency finalists, extemporaneous speaking placements (including a state champion), animal show placings (market lambs, hogs, steers), and several state-degree earners.
Advisers and students noted that three graduates or chapter members will attend national competitions in October, and the chapter requested out-of-state travel authorization at a future meeting. The chapter president described plans for a casual kickoff meeting and community-focused events to engage younger members.
The board also recognized two school nurses for New Mexico School Nurses Association awards and honored Adriana Adon for a New and Emerging Teacher award from the New Mexico Music Educators Association; the Mor High School choir was also named a 2025 Honor Ensemble for all-state performance in January.
No formal board actions were recorded related to the awards beyond recognition; the FFA noted it will request travel approvals at upcoming meetings.
