The Moriarty-Edgewood School Board on Aug. 20 approved a 2024–2027 strategic plan that sets multi-year performance targets for academics, student well‑being and participation.
Superintendent Viano presented the plan and told the board it contains five focus areas including English language arts, mathematics, well-being and mental health, student engagement and pathways to success. "We will set targets, measure progress, and report regularly," Viano said as the board reviewed each focus area before the vote.
The plan includes measurable goals: at least 3% annual growth in ELA as measured by state assessments and district interim assessments, 5% annual growth in mathematics, a districtwide goal to raise favorable responses on the Panorama climate survey from 60% to 90% over three years (a 10% year-over-year target), and a 10% increase in student participation in co‑curricular and extracurricular activities by 2027. The district also committed to safety and security audits and to bringing principals into 90‑day action planning to align site and district work.
Board members asked how the district will monitor progress and requested regular updates; the superintendent said the next steps include progress monitoring schedules and reporting formats. A motion to approve the plan was made, seconded and passed by voice vote.
The board approved the plan during the meeting; implementation steps now move to administration and principals, who were asked to translate district action steps into site-level 90‑day plans and to report back on progress.
