City projects staff told the council they are advancing several phase-three items for the Martin Luther King Jr./Jack Warner Parkway improvement project and that the items were doubled up on the projects agenda to maintain schedule while the council skips a meeting for a municipal election.
Staff said the first item was the tentative award of a public-works contract to Scott Bridge Company for phase three for $43,985,665.51. The presentation also listed a task order directive No. 5 with Thompson Engineering for phase three not to exceed $3,995,920 and Amendment No. 5 to Task Order Directive No. 1 with Thompson Engineering for $387,452.
On intergovernmental funding, staff listed an amendment to the joint funding agreement with the Tuscaloosa County Road Improvement Commission related to the project with a referenced total of $84,316,194.80.
Asked why the items were doubled up, a staff presenter said the scheduling change was to keep work moving during the election week: "we're wanting to get this done in the midst of there being no council because of the election next week," the presenter said. The transcript records the items as being presented for authorization on the projects agenda; the excerpt does not record final votes or award confirmations.
