He listed minimum eligibility requirements: applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a driver's license, hold a high school diploma or GED, and live within four minutes of a fire station. Applications are being accepted through the end of April, and the city will provide required training for those selected.
The chief invited interested residents to check the city website for application details and noted public information sessions scheduled for the next Tuesday and Saturday. A council member later praised a rapid response anecdote (a 3.5-minute turnout) as evidence of the department's effectiveness.
