The city of Pasadena and the Black History Planning Committee announced Walt Butler as the grand marshal of the 2026 Black History Festival, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 21 at Robinson Park, the Rose City Report said.
Organizers highlighted Butler’s long service to youth, seniors and unhoused neighbors, his induction into the Pasadena Sports Hall of Fame and his background as an athlete and coach at Pasadena City College. The broadcast noted Butler lost his Altadena home of more than 60 years in a fire and described his continuing community leadership.
Festival organizers said the parade will pause this year but the day will include youth performances, live entertainment, food trucks, community resource booths and the return of a classic car show.
The announcement framed the festival theme as unifying culture and supporting the next generation; residents were encouraged to attend the Feb. 21 event at Robinson Park.
