Pasadena health officials urged residents who are not fully vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) to get immunized, the Rose City Report said.
The broadcast noted that there have been no confirmed measles cases in Pasadena this year, but nearby Los Angeles and Orange counties reported several cases over the past week. Health officials emphasized that measles is highly contagious and can cause serious complications, especially in children under 5, adults over 20, pregnant people and people with weakened immune systems.
The health advisory listed possible complications including pneumonia, seizures and meningitis and recommended that anyone not fully vaccinated consult their health care provider or the Pasadena Health Department for guidance.
The announcement aimed to raise awareness of local prevention steps and to remind residents of the protective value of vaccination.
