"I am Carol Smitherman, retired circuit judge for Jefferson County," she told members, adding she takes the law seriously and pledged to "do a very good job" if confirmed. The committee considered Judge Smitherman and David R. Pruitt en masse; after a motion for a favorable recommendation by Senator Allen and a second by Senator Sessions, the committee recorded nine yays and one abstention (Senator Smitherman) and advanced the nominations to the Senate floor.
Josh Bryant, nominated for reappointment to the Alabama Firefighters Personnel Standards and Education Commission, described more than 20 years of volunteer service in the state's fire service and said he takes state-level representation of firefighters seriously. Senator Williams moved a favorable recommendation, Senator Smitherman seconded, and the committee approved Bryant's reappointment 10–0.
Dylan Turk, nominated to the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission, told the committee he works in a family wholesale nursery in Mobile County and thanked Speaker Ledbetter for the nomination. After a motion by Senator Williams and a second by Senator Sessions, the committee voted 10–0 to recommend Turk.
Committee members noted short notice for the morning's confirmations and that David R. Pruitt had a prior family commitment; the clerk clarified that Pruitt had been approved in the en masse vote despite his absence. With no further business, the chair adjourned the meeting.
