Jones County to seek $916,872 in state LRA funds for road work

Jones County officials told the board on April 7 that the county was awarded $916,872 in Local Road Assistance funding to supplement routine LMIG paving and asked for permission to submit selected roads to the Georgia Department of Transportation for the award.
"We were awarded $916,872 for additional road work," Mr. Griffin told commissioners and then presented a prioritized list that included North Baker, Royal Coach, Crestview Trace, Showal Creek Road and Old Town Road as candidate projects for the LRA allocation.
Griffin said the list follows previously approved priorities but acknowledged practical choices about connecting work across neighborhoods and the difficulty of reordering the schedule. Commissioners discussed evaluating neighborhoods as units rather than standalone roads but ultimately approved the submission to GDOT by voice vote.
The county will proceed with paperwork to secure the funding and will coordinate project scheduling and contractor mobilization once GDOT confirms allocations and timing. Griffin reminded the board that some candidate sections are short stretches of pavement that would supplement other work already planned.
