The Bel Air Board of Town Commissioners on April 6 approved Resolution 1266-26 endorsing Town Administrator Hopkins’s recommendation to appoint Michael S. Bear as the town’s director of planning.
Staff said Bear was selected after an application and interview process following the March 31 retirement of the former director, Kevin Small, who served 15 years. Officials noted that local code requires department‑head appointments by the town administrator with board approval.
Bear introduced himself briefly and said he has worked at the state level and with local communities across the state for about 25 years; he thanked the board for the appointment and said he looks forward to working on planning initiatives for Bel Air.
The board welcomed Bear and approved the appointment by unanimous roll call.
