The Sykesville Historic District Commission approved application 2026-02 to permit vinyl display window and entry-door decals for a business at 7568 Main Street.
Kevin, presenting the staff analysis, said the proposed display window decal would occupy about 12.6% of the glass and the door decal about 9.7%, both under the guideline maxima (15% for windows, 10% for doors). "Based on the numbers they gave us ... both calculations comply with the standards established in the guidelines," Kevin told the commission. He added that while vinyl lettering is typically not recommended, it has become a common material for display-window signage in the historic district and staff would be comfortable approving the application as presented.
Commissioners had no substantive objections and moved to approve the application. The motion passed with no roll-call recorded in the transcript.
The approval is limited to the decal sizes and placement presented to the commission; staff asked that the applicant maintain the decals to prevent peeling or bubbling, as deterioration could trigger future review or removal requirements.
