Waldwick hires Bruno Associates for grants; council approves playground and street improvement contracts

WALDWICK — The Borough of Waldwick on June 24 welcomed Bruno Associates, a recently contracted grant-writing and grant-management firm, and reviewed a slate of consent resolutions that advance local parks and transportation projects.
Administrator Stephen introduced Bruno’s representatives, who said they have already submitted a municipal-aid application for Hudson Avenue to the New Jersey Department of Transportation and plan additional NJDOT and state applications for West Prospect Street and pedestrian-safety work. Bruno told the council the firm will consolidate awards and active grants into a single report to help borough staff with compliance, reporting and budgeting. Bruno estimated federal award timelines typically take about six to eight months after application.
Council members raised local priorities for grants, including ADA improvements at Borough Park to replace gravel access paths, sidewalk and crosswalk work, water infrastructure projects and volunteer-recruitment support for the fire department. Bruno offered follow-up meetings with the Access-for-All committee and borough staff to scope projects.
On consent, the council listed and advanced a number of items by consent resolution. Notable actions recorded in the meeting packet and read aloud to the body included:
- Authorizing a fair-and-open contract to Green Valley Group Inc. for improvements to Lions Memorial Playground in the amount of $327,465. - Awarding a professional-services contract to Boswell Engineering for construction inspection of Alliance Memorial Playground Task 3 in the amount of $40,000. - Authorizing submission of grant applications to the New Jersey Department of Transportation for Hudson Avenue municipal aid and for West Prospect Street under multiple NJDOT programs.
Those consent items were presented as nonbinding authorizations to apply for grants or to proceed with contracting steps; staff said the authorizations do not create final binding obligations beyond the procurement process.
The council also announced personnel items on the consent list, including appointment of a full-time dispatcher and pool lifeguards, acceptance of a resignation, and several pavilion-use permits for summer events. The consent list was read and placed on the record; procedural votes followed according to the consent agenda process.
Council members said they would continue to coordinate with Bruno Associates on project scoping and encouraged residents and committees to funnel project ideas through Administrator Stephen to streamline requests.
