Marysville Joint Unified trustees voted to accept an Agricultural Career Technical Education Incentive Grant after presentations from ag teachers and students at Marysville High and Lyndhurst High.
Kayla Coffman and colleagues outlined how funds support teacher professional development, student travel to competitions and college visits, supplies for hands-on labs and leadership packages for FFA participation. "The AG incentive grant is designed to be equitable and is output-based," Coffman said, adding that the program helps fund student leadership and supervised agricultural experiences.
Lyndhurst speakers described smaller allocations tied to program size and teacher counts; Lyndhurst reported receiving approximately $13,000 for the 2024–25 year, and staff explained state scoring prioritizes certified teachers and program outcomes. Marysville presenters said their higher allocation reflects program scale and outcomes but noted the grant does not fully fund all program costs; schools supplement AIG with community and endowment support.
The board moved and approved acceptance of the grant award by voice vote.
What happens next: Site-level staff will budget AIG funds for supplies, travel and professional development and report back to the board on expenditures and outcomes.
