Council swears in members, appoints mayor pro tem; Nolan County Renewal Project donates $20,000 to local law enforcement

During a presentation, a representative of the Nolan County Renewal Project told the council the nonprofit’s annual trail-run fundraiser attracted over 160 participants, nearly doubling last year’s turnout, and raised more than $20,000. The group’s president said the organization awarded $10,000 to the Nolan County Sheriff’s Department and $10,000 to the Sweetwater Police Department to support mental-health transfer efforts. "This year I as a president of the Nolan County Renewal Project, I'm excited to award $10,000 to the Nolan County Sheriff's Department... and another $10,000 to the Sweetwater Police Department to also aid them in their mental health transfers," the representative said.
In the city manager’s report, staff announced the municipal pool will open May 23 and promoted a SNAP fan drive for seniors (donation drop-off at 1701 Elm, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.). The manager also described a new Nolan County resource directory website compiled with local partners and a Pioneer Museum video highlighting community history. The council adjourned at 9:48 p.m.
