Bradley County Schools presents FY 2026'2027 budget to commission; commissioners seek more detail and committee review

Commissioner Bill Winters asked Smith for the number of businesses currently participating at the PIE Center; Smith agreed to provide that count to the commission office. Commissioner Louie Alford requested the proposed schools budget be referred to the Finance Committee for additional review. Commissioner Milan Blake raised questions about the projected student-growth figures included in the draft budget.
Dr. Linda Cash, director of schools, told commissioners the county mayor was comfortable with the growth projections and said the schools would use the fund balance if the projections proved inaccurate. The commission did not vote on the budget at the work session and did not set a timeline for final action; commissioners directed staff to provide the requested information and process the referral to committee.
Next steps: staff will provide the PIE Center business-count information to the commission office and the Finance Committee will review the proposed budget before the commission's voting session.
