Accord presents community needs assessment as Allegany County proclaims Community Action Month

At the May 13 meeting the Allegany County Board of Legislators proclaimed May 2026 Community Action Month and heard from Accord’s executive director, Leslie Chrisman, about the agency’s new community needs assessment.
Leslie Chrisman said community action agencies are charged with identifying local needs and designing responsive programs and that Accord’s recently published assessment will guide work over the coming years. “I think you'll find it's very comprehensive,” Chrisman told the board and asked legislators to review the report at accordcorp.org.
The chair read a proclamation praising community action agencies for investing in job training, volunteer engagement and programs aimed at economic independence. The proclamation framed community action as an important local tool for addressing poverty and building resilience.
This was an informational presentation and proclamation; no vote or budget action related to Accord’s assessment was recorded in the meeting minutes.
