Kiski Area SD gets construction update; board to consider change orders

A presenter described Area A classrooms as ready, the media lab as nearly complete with glass walls and a reception desk installed, cafeteria bleachers and most kitchen equipment in place, and ongoing mechanical testing throughout the building. "The building does look fantastic," the presenter said, adding that furniture deliveries begin Friday and that the district expects incremental furniture installation over the next two to three weeks.
The presenter identified four parts of Change Order 19: removal and re‑coating of exterior sunscreens that required rework; a field-condition modification to pad out the stepped brick face so metal panels could be installed; a paving add that covers additional full-depth sections and replacement grates and inlet rings discovered in the field; and added casework in the family consumer-science space to provide microwave power at each workstation. The presenter said the kitchen is about 90% set and that some wiring and contractor flex connections remain in the tech-ed and art spaces.
Board members pressed for clarification on which change-order items were on the agenda and who is responsible for specific omissions. Administration and presenters said some items were architect omissions (for example, omitted electrical drops for microwaves) while others arose from field conditions or contractor adjustments.
Administrators told the board they expect to wait a few weeks before requesting the building inspector and anticipate a final inspection in mid‑ to late June. A timeline for gym renovation work was also provided: wood-floor refinishing is scheduled to begin May 19.
No vote on the change orders occurred at this meeting; the items were described for the board to review ahead of the Monday voting session. The meeting concluded with routine director remarks and a public-comment period; the board adjourned by voice vote.
