Students honored for math and art achievements; district highlights student service projects

The board highlighted student achievements and community service at the May 12 meeting, presenting awards to third-grade math standouts and student artists and describing service-learning activities that produced food donations for local organizations.
Speaker 3 said four third graders from Red Cedars scored in the top 2% of third graders statewide on the iLearn assessments and received National Math Stars awards. Teachers called students forward for certificates and photos.
Mrs. Chambers, Lincoln Elementary’s art teacher, presented Hanover’s Got Talent awards and led a brief art demonstration with student Zoe King, whose stained-glass work and other pieces were displayed. Other classroom art teachers presented selected students from multiple schools for certificates and recognition.
Staff also outlined a service-learning program: a high-school-based Kids Feeding Kids project that prepares large batches of cold-prepped meals for donation. Speaker 6 said the program and student volunteers helped donate “close to 1,000 meals” to the Lighthouse Church food pantry this year, and the district plans a June teacher training to expand the program regionally.
What happens next: The district will continue to display student artwork and pursue outreach to expand service-learning and community fundraising projects.
