Hanover board approves calendar shifts and several policy updates

In a grouped set of votes the board approved revisions to district policies (including policy 5111, policy 5200 and policy 5223) after the administration presented technical and statutory updates. Speaker 4 told the board the student-discipline policy 5600 was being revised to incorporate a provision added by Senate Enrolled Act 482 that prohibits suspension or expulsion solely for chronic absence and to update language from “habitually absent” to “habitually truant.” The grouped policy package passed unanimously.
The board then voted separately on revised policy 5517.01 on bullying. That motion passed 4–1; the transcript records Guzman as the lone “no” vote during roll call.
