Council authorizes up to $155,000 for plaster removal at 221 North Main

The Weatherford City Council on Oct. 28 authorized the city manager to execute a contract with DRI for plaster removal at 221 North Main, approving work not to exceed $155,000.
Matt Leppler, director of public works, explained the plaster removal is part of a larger building preservation and renovation project following asbestos abatement. Leppler said removing damaged plaster and repointing mortar is necessary to preserve the 1880s‑era masonry and protect structural integrity.
Dawn, a finance staff member, told the council the city’s total investment in the building, including the proposed $155,000, would be about $875,000. She said the city expects sale proceeds in the range of $400,000 to $600,000 when the property is marketed and cited an assessed value near $1.4 million.
Council discussed the building’s purchase background, asbestos abatement already completed, and the rationale for completing the exterior work to make the property marketable. Council member Heidi Wilder moved to approve the contract; the motion was seconded and carried.
The council authorized the expenditure as part of the city’s ongoing downtown investment and preservation work; staff said the work will allow the city to transact on the property in the future and help protect the building’s structural integrity.
