The team gave concrete specifications: ceilings of approximately 15 to 20 feet and a practice field about 30 feet by 55 feet, requirements driven by competition elements such as high‑trajectory shots and moving PVC components. A student described hands‑on learning outcomes: "My time participating on team MecTech 3959 in the FIRST Robotics Competition has taught me valuable hard and soft skills," the student said, citing mechanical work, teamwork and communication.
A mentor who has worked with the team for more than a decade emphasized the program’s career benefits, noting students use industry‑grade sensors, cameras and control systems that provide direct exposure to engineering and machining skills. Team members also described roles such as mechanics, drive team and marketing and said a local facility could generate modest revenue through hosting and sponsor outreach.
Board members and staff asked whether all county high schools were represented; the team said participation currently includes West Morgan and suggested examining the district’s old gym as one possible site because it has appropriate ceiling height and lockable storage for equipment. No formal action or vote was taken; staff and board members agreed to look into available locations and report back.
The presentation closed with board praise for adult volunteers and mentors who support the team and for the students’ achievements.
