Pequannock Township School District to open Genesys parent portal for athletics registration; high school sign-ups May 19–June 1

Matt Shea, chief technology officer for the Pequannock Township School District, walked parents through a preview of the district’s new Genesys parent portal and outlined the athletics-registration schedule for next fall.

Shea said the district is "rolling out a new student information system" that will be in place for the September start of the school year, and that the portal is being opened early to allow families to complete athletics forms now. "High school athletics registration is May 19 through June 1," he said, and middle-school forms for next year’s sixth through eighth graders will be available June 4 through June 15.

The district will email guardians a welcome message with a username and temporary password and will post a how-to video on the district website, Shea said. Parents who receive the email should use the sign-in link to access a forms library showing every form assigned to all of a family’s students. Shea urged families to complete the participation form in one sitting when possible and to verify contact and emergency-contact information before finalizing.

To reduce friction, the district separated the participation form from the physician-signed physical. Shea explained the process is two-step: parents first complete the athletics participation form, then later upload a signed physical when it is available. "The chances are slim that you have a physical signed by the doctor in hand right now as you fill out this athletics participation form," he said. The physical-upload form will be available year-round.

Shea noted the portal collects key health contacts such as doctor and dentist information for the district’s nurses and said some health fields are required by the NJSIAA, the regional governing body for high-school athletics. He cautioned that certain forms cannot be edited after a parent finalizes them: "Please remember that you can't go back and change these answers, so it kind of needs to be accurate on the first pass."

On security, Shea emphasized that the portal is the district’s chosen place for sensitive documents and that the district will not send secure documents or personally identifying information by email. He pointed parents to contact information in the portal for the appropriate school nurse or the athletics office and said the district IT team can assist families who need help accessing Genesys.

Shea said the district plans to open the full parent portal in August with guardian accounts for all custodial contacts; the portal will later host grades, report cards, transportation details and other student information. "We look forward to doing more with Genesys in the future," he said, thanking parents and noting that athletics, band and color guard registration are now available in the system.

The district did not take any formal action during this presentation; parents were instructed on how and when to complete registration steps and where to seek help if they encounter issues.
