Clarksville board approves $205,000 preschool retrofit, hires high-ability coordinator and adds attendance software

The Clarksville Community School Board voted unanimously to award a $205,000 contract to Cutter Construction to retrofit Renaissance Early Learning Academy for On My Way pre-K transitions, approve a one-year consultation contract for a new high-ability coordinator, and authorize a ParentSquare Attendance Plus add-on for automated attendance communications.
Superintendent Dr. Bennett presented CSO Architects’ recommendation that Cutter Construction receive the retrofit contract at the bid price of $205,000. The work described includes adding two interior walls between studios and making ceiling and sound adjustments; Dr. Bennett said the work is scheduled to begin in late May or early June and to be completed by the start of the 2026–27 school year. Board member (speaker 6) moved the motion to approve; the board then voted “aye” and the motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Bennett also asked the board to approve a consultation agreement to hire Wendy Ivy as the district’s high-ability coordinator effective July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027. Dr. Bennett said Ivy retired from Highland Hills Middle School and holds a high-ability certification; she added that Ivy’s salary will be paid from the district’s high-ability grant. The board approved that contract unanimously.
The board approved an add-on module for the ParentSquare parent-communications platform called Attendance Plus. Dr. Bennett said the add-on will automate attendance letters to parents, produce reports and provide front-office training; she gave the cost as $3,645 annually with a one-time $562 onboarding fee for training. The board approved the ParentSquare add-on unanimously.
Other routine business approved during the meeting included the consent agenda of donations to Clarksville High School and Clarksville Elementary School, bank statements, transfers, claims and payroll, and personnel items such as resignations, retirements, leaves of absence and summer coaching appointments. Dr. Bennett stated that conflict-of-interest disclosure forms for recently hired staff will be filed with the Clark County Clerk’s Office and the State Board of Accounts as required, and the board approved filing them.
The board’s approvals were procedural and recorded as unanimous; the meeting adjourned with a reminder of upcoming graduation and end-of-year events.
