Tift County will use a $1,920,000 OneGeorgia hurricane disaster recovery award to help repair flooding, street and water infrastructure in the Phillipsburg neighborhood, County Manager Jim Carter told the Board of Commissioners at a Jan. 6 work session. The total estimated project cost is $2,235,994; the county’s match of $315,994 is expected to come from SPLOST VI.
Carter said the award is targeted to address both street and water-system problems in Phillipsburg. The Board indicated its desire to place the award on the Jan. 12 Consent Agenda for formal action.
The award requires the county to provide a local match; Carter said the match will come from the county’s SPLOST VI funds. He did not provide a construction schedule or a contractor selection timeline at the work session. The county manager also did not say whether additional state or federal approvals are required before work begins.
The board did not take a vote at the work session; the item was scheduled for the regular meeting consent agenda on Jan. 12. Next steps include formal acceptance of the award and a public procurement process as required for the planned street and water-system work.
