FORT PIERCE — At a Sept. 25 special magistrate hearing, the City of Fort Pierce found nuisance or lot‑clearing violations at a string of properties and ordered owners to bring their properties into compliance by Oct. 2, 2024, or face fines and municipal abatement.
City staff introduced date‑stamped photographs and notices of violation for multiple addresses, including 2609 Citrus Avenue, several properties on North 19th Street (including parcels identified in cases LTCL2024Dash164 and LTCL2024Dash165), 434 North 19th Street, 421 North 20th Street, 1402 South 25th Street, properties on Granada Street, Porpoise Avenue, South Ocean Drive, and 1401 San Diego Avenue. For each case the magistrate found that a nuisance condition existed under the city code and ordered compliance by Oct. 2, 2024.
The standard remedy imposed across these cases includes a requirement to cut grass and weeds, trim trees, shrubs and bushes to standards described in the notices (for example, visibility trims measured from 7 feet from the ground), and remove trash and debris. The magistrate warned that failure to comply by the date ordered will result in a $100‑per‑day fine for each day the violation continues and that the city may take steps to abate the nuisance with costs assessed to the property. Each violator retains a 30‑day right to appeal.
City staff also confirmed standard notice procedures for hearings — certified mail, regular mail, and posting at properties — and reviewed the green‑card process consistent with state statute 162.12.
The hearing concluded with the magistrate adjourning the session; written orders will be issued and mailed to the property owners with compliance instructions and appeal information.
