Council approves ECSJ $1,000 community grant and continues SCIP funding for 2027

The Covington City Council approved two items related to community support and regional housing collaboration.
ECSJ community grant: Staff summarized the newly established Equity, Cultural and Social Justice (ECSJ) community grant program, which opened applications March 5–April 15. The ECSJ commission reviewed applications and unanimously recommended awarding the maximum $1,000 grant to Covington Town Pride for a June 20, 2026 event projected to serve 300–500 residents. The council moved and approved the commission’s recommendation by voice vote. Staff noted logistical follow-up (branding and social-media promotion) if the award is accepted.
SCIP work plan and funding: Dorsa Plance, program coordinator for South King County Housing & Homelessness Partners (SCIP), presented the 2027 draft work plan and operating budget ($525,008) and explained member contribution tiers (Covington's 2027 contribution = $15,086). The council moved and seconded a resolution to continue funding SCIP at that level and adopted the 2027 work plan by voice vote. Dorsa noted SCIP has collectively leveraged over $18 million for affordable housing projects in the subregion and that member contributions fund staffing and matching for capital funds.
