The board received an introduction item on May 13 proposing to declare a donated residential property at 3020 East Yesler Way surplus and to authorize the district to market it for sale. Director LaValle said the property was gifted specifically to benefit Leschi Elementary and staff reported the board would price the sale at no less than 90% of an appraised value (estimated in the presentation) and that proceeds must be used for capital purposes for Leschi Elementary.
Director Rankin asked about permissible uses and community involvement in deciding how proceeds would be deployed; staff and the superintendent confirmed proceeds are capital-eligible and suggested the school community and board would engage after the sale amount is determined. A public hearing on the sale will be scheduled so the community can comment before final approval.
Director Song suggested the board consider ways to memorialize the donor given the gift's significance. Staff said they would schedule the public hearing and provide additional details about valuation and process.
