Summary
A board member asked for clarification of a provision giving the board 'sole discretion' to set charter-school liability coverage limits; the committee tabled that policy item pending administrative review. The policy committee tabled PSBA-updated policy 140 on charter schools after a board member flagged a highlighted liability clause that says charter-school liability policies must provide coverage "deemed adequate and reasonable in the sole discretion of the board." The member said there are no guidelines or a linked statute in the packet and recommended staff, including Dr. Redmond, confirm whether existing contracts or documents define the limits before the committee advances the policy.
Chair Chris said the committee would follow that recommendation and table the item until administration can confirm how "sole discretion" has been applied and whether a cross-reference should be added. "We'll table that one until the next policy meeting," he said.
Separately, the committee agreed to have administration produce photo identification badges for board directors in addition to swipe cards; Justin's office offered to take pictures during an onboarding appointment and Rachel will add instructions to the committee minutes and notify directors by email.
The committee confirmed its next meeting for Wednesday, June 10 at 10 a.m. and asked Rachel/Christine to ensure the session is publicly advertised.
