Bonham council adopts zoning‑ordinance updates to modernize schedule of uses and definitions

The Bonham City Council on Jan. 12 approved amendments to its zoning ordinance aimed at modernizing land‑use categories, associated definitions and locations where uses are allowed.
City Manager Sean Pate described the package of changes — updates to Appendix 1 (Schedule of Uses), Appendix 2 (Definitions Associated with Schedule of Uses) and Article 11 (Special Uses) within Exhibit 14A — and said the intent is to improve clarity, protect public health and safety, preserve property values and improve the community’s appearance. The Planning and Zoning Commission had recommended approval.
Allen Sanderson moved to adopt the ordinance, Kevin Hayes seconded, and the motion carried unanimously (6‑0). The council did not attach conditions to the amendments when adopting them.
The changes will apply citywide where Exhibit 14A governs permitted and special uses; staff said future development proposals must comply with the updated definitions and standards.
