At the beginning of the May 13 meeting the Long Branch City Council invited two student presentations marking heritage months. Rafael Pierre Louis, a student from Long Branch Middle School, gave a prepared talk on Haitian history and culture, including the Haitian Revolution, musical traditions such as compa and raro, cuisine, art and religious traditions. Later Zane Rosario, a high-school freshman representing Long Branch Public Schools, read a statement honoring Jewish American heritage, noting historical perseverance, contributions to the community and a call to counter antisemitism.
Council members praised both students for their presentations and thanked school leaders for arranging the appearances. Those proclamations and readings were entered on the record and acknowledged by the mayor and council as a highlight of the evening.
What happens next: the presentations were part of the consent/ceremonial section of the meeting; no further council action was required.
