Staff later reported a military ballot, two provisional ballots and, following a recess to process materials, three additional ballots were added to the day's tally. A board member moved "to accept the results as we've received those today," and the motion was seconded and approved by the board.
A board member read a formal statement certifying the canvass: "The Vigo County Election Board, having met on 05/15/2026 to determine eligibility of any provisional votes and to review a final canvas of election results, hereby certifies the 2026 primary election results. The board hereby instructs the Vigo County Clerk's Office to transmit any necessary reports to the Indiana Election Division." The board adopted that statement and authorized the clerk's office to transmit required reports.
The board also handled individual eligibility matters during the canvass. Members voted to deny one contested voter entry after clarifying which record was under consideration; staff explained that in one registration review the records matched on name, Social Security last-four and birth year, and the board decided to accept the ballot on the basis of the full-registration explanation. The board retained hard-copy materials as required for potential future review.
After the certification the Chair thanked courthouse and voting center staff for their work, noting the election ran "smoothly" and there were no reported violations of the 50-foot rule around polling places. The meeting adjourned at 1:07 p.m.
