Board honors outgoing trustee and student representative; student accepted to Princeton

The Banning Unified School District board used the May 13 meeting to recognize outgoing trustee Myra Anguiano and to hear final remarks from the student board representative, Mary Ade Fibritto.

During a special recognition segment, multiple trustees and staff praised Anguiano’s years of service, leadership in classroom engagement and contributions during challenging times. "You've definitely represent our students from a parent perspective...your influence, a part of your leadership," one trustee said, thanking Anguiano for her commitment.

Myra Anguiano addressed the board and community, thanking colleagues and family and reflecting on the personal rewards and sacrifices of board service. Anguiano thanked the district and said she looked forward to returning to the classroom.

Mary Ade Fibritto, the student board member, apologized for missing earlier portions of the meeting because of grad‑night commitments and described her priorities during the year — advocating for student mental health, improvements to the ELD program and recognition for student leaders. She told trustees she will attend Princeton University on a full scholarship. "I am truly grateful for the opportunity to stand before you today...I will be attending Princeton University on a full ride scholarship," she said.

Student presenters earlier in the meeting described spring events, dances, athletics and recent successes at Nicolette Middle School and Banning High School. Union and classified‑staff leaders used public comment to congratulate both Anguiano and Ade Fibritto and to note upcoming bargaining and classified‑staff recognition events.
