The City Council voted to reserve eight acres of newly acquired land on Mueller Memorial Boulevard for use by the Laredo Police Department as a sector station and training site focused on the warehouse/port district.
Chief Eduardo Reyes told council the department needs space for operations, equipment storage, training and a local sector command to reduce deployment times to high-traffic industrial corridors. The Port/Warehouse district has seen rapidly rising calls for service, and the police department said a satellite station would reduce response times that can otherwise reach seven to eight minutes in heavy traffic.
Council members discussed interim options such as portable buildings and seek a conceptual plan and cost estimate before committing construction funds. The motion to reserve the acreage passed by council vote.
