The Cottage Grove Plan Commission on May 13 recommended annexation of approximately 108.482 acres submitted by Lindstrom Acres LLC, a petition presented by Newman Development.
Brian of Newman Development told the commission the petition was unanimous among the property owners and described a two-step annexation: ‘‘This first large parcel will come into the village, and you’ll see subsequent applications for rezoning, preliminary plat for a residential for-sale neighborhood,’’ he said. Staff recommended approval and noted that while the plan commission can recommend annexation, the Village Board cannot act until the Department (state) provides its letter of review.
Commissioners asked for clarity on the two-part approach and which portions are included now; staff and the developer said the motion covers the majority/core parcel (about 108.482 acres) while a few smaller infill parcels will come later. One commissioner moved to recommend approval of item 7 (the annexation petition) and a second supported the motion; the commission approved the recommendation by voice vote.
Next steps: the village board will consider the annexation recommendation, and state review will be required before final village action. Newman Development anticipates returning to the June meeting with preliminary plat and rezoning requests.
