Lynwood Unified names Kathleen Graham district Teacher of the Year; dozens of site honorees recognized

The Lynwood Unified School District honored site-level Teachers of the Year and announced Kathleen Graham of Washington Elementary as the district Teacher of the Year at the May 14, 2026 board meeting.
Presenters walked through nominees from numerous sites, describing exemplary practices, leadership and student-centered instruction. Principal Selena Pinello introduced two Rosa Parks Elementary students who led the flag salute. Staff presenters named winners at schools including Vista High, Lynnwood High, Firebaugh High, Mark Twain Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, and others. Presenters highlighted scholarship recipients at Lynwood High and noted professional development outcomes at Firebaugh High.
Board members and the superintendent’s office publicly thanked educators. Board member Del Real Calleros remarked on the teachers’ dedication and the importance of recognizing classroom work; another board member offered a brief personal tribute, saying, "Blessed are those who plant trees under whose shade they will never sit," in praise of educators’ long-term impact.
District leaders noted that the district Teacher of the Year will advance to county-level recognition. The ceremony concluded with a group photograph and applause from the audience and board.
