Carlisle Area SD board approves curricula, textbook, contracts and policy updates in routine business block

The board approved multiple routine business items during the May meeting, including curriculum and textbook approvals, contracts, appointments and policy updates.

Education committee chair John Tarrant recommended revisions to the anthropology and sociology curricula that streamline units, add essential questions and emphasize disciplinary skills; the board approved both curriculum updates. The committee also recommended and the board approved a new sociology textbook aligned with national standards.

Facilities committee reported an unforeseen $61,000 plumbing repair in stadium Phase 2 and moved to transfer $32,300 from CR 241 and $35,000 from CR 237 into CR 242 (Athletic Master Plan Phase 2) to complete the project; the motion passed by voice vote.

The board authorized a one-year renewal with Metz Culinary Management for school food services beginning July 1, 2026, and approved the district's annual list of financial institutions for deposit and investment use. The board appointed Peggy Bauer as board treasurer effective July 1, 2026, and named Paula Bussard, Peggy Bauer, Aaron Hughes and Michael Statler as trustees to the South Central Trust for a one-year term.

On governance matters, Joe presented revisions to Policy 218.1 (weapons) to align with changes in the school code and recommended adding a common sentence to Policy 222 (tobacco use) and Policy 227 (controlled substances) so the district may use detection devices (particularly to detect vaping in restrooms); the board approved the policy changes.

The board noted the solar contract for Crestview remains under negotiation and expects the final contract in June.
