Washington Township board honors Nick’s Pizza owner for long-running student work program

At the start of its meeting, the Washington Township School District presented a community-partner award to Dimitrios (Dimitrios Salinas) of Nick’s Pizza in Glassboro for more than a decade of support for community-based instruction and the district’s post-secondary work program.
"To the students and staff at our specialized programs, Nick's Pizza is so much more than just a place to grab a great slice," Special Education Supervisor Joe Hoopes told the board. Hoopes described Salinas's work teaching kitchen and vocational life skills, inviting students into the kitchen and tailoring experiences so every student could participate.
Hoopes read the citation recognizing Salinas for "consistency, belonging and generosity," and students and teachers joined in presenting a framed collection of photos and hand-written cards. Salinas thanked the board and community members.
The board noted the presentation as an example of long-standing community partnerships that support vocational and inclusive opportunities for students.
