Commission OKs waiver to allow fire station replat to proceed without widening East Maddox Avenue

City staff presented FS26052, a replat combining two lots to make way for a city‑owned fire station and related community improvements. Anna Carrillo, the civil engineer on the project, said the existing East Maddox Avenue right‑of‑way measures about 43 feet; Transportation/Public Works staff had no objection to leaving it at 43 feet because of stormwater infrastructure and constraints around a neighboring historic preservation hall.
"Because this is a renovation project, the site is very constrained," Carrillo said, explaining the project will retain sanitary and utility easements and abandon an underused alley while maintaining necessary utilities.
Commissioner Henderson moved and Commissioner Reid seconded conditional approval of the waiver (to not require an additional 3.5 feet of right‑of‑way) and conditional approval of the final plat upon meeting staff comments. The motion passed on a recorded roll call vote with unanimous support.
The conditional approval requires the applicant to address plotting comments in the staff report before final plat recording.
